Jodie Whittaker: Doctor Who's 13th Time Lord to be a womanJodie Whittaker has been announced as Doctor Who's 13th Time Lord - the first woman to be given the role. The new Doctor's identity was revealed in a trailer broadcast at the end of the Wimbledon men's singles final. The Broadchurch star succeeds Peter Capaldi, who took over the role in 2013 and leaves in the forthcoming Christmas special. Whittaker, 35, said it was "overwhelming, as a feminist" to become the next Doctor. She will make her debut on the sci-fi show when the Doctor regenerates in the Christmas special. Well we have a new doctor and she is a woman, I must admit that am one of the people who think that The Doctor becoming a woman is probably a bit silly. But then again isn’t the whole thing a bit silly when you think about it? While I am not overly excited about our new lady doctor I also refuse to condemn her without giving her a chance. You can put the whole idea of a Female Doctor Who into perspective by thinking of it as an Anchovy. Yes I did say Anchovy. When I was young I had no idea what an Anchovy was until I saw someone on TV ask “what is an Anchovy” and the reply was “A hairy fish”. Well I did not think I would like Hairy Fish so when someone asked me if I liked Anchovies I would say No! Well one day my then boss asked me if I had ever tried Anchovies and I had to admit I had not. So he ordered a Pizza with Anchovies and I tried a slice, well I loved the Anchovies and they are not my favourite Pizza Topping.
Well I think Jodie Whittaker is going to be the Gallifreyan equivalent of an Anchovy. Just as some people love Anchovies and some hate them some will love Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor and others will not. But I for one, even though I am still inclined to think the whole thing a bit silly, will at least sample this new Female Doctor Who before I make my mind up one way or another.
P. S. One thing I have noticed today was that Media Outlets who never mention “Doctor Who” have been discussing this Jodie Whittaker as the New Time Lord..... or is that Time Lady. And as they say in the Advertising Trade “No publicity is Bad Publicity”. So weather Jodie Whittaker is around for a Short Time or for a Long Time surely in the long run all of this extra publicity is going to be good for the show.
