BG is going through the mill again with work. They promise him stuff then it doesnt happen. They suggested he'd get more work if he could drive a truck so off he went and got his licence (a thousand bucks later) and now they are barely giving him any work. Luckily, he has some summer work with the bungy trampoline to keep him afloat but poor thing is getting quite despondent. Grrrr!! Every thing he applies for they want experience - how's a young person supposed to get it??

Every thing he applies for they want experience - how's a young person supposed to get it?? they make it rough for you. of course, later on, the problem will be that he will be overqualified. it used to be that many people would hire you so that you could learn the trade. it does take a lot of time and money to train someone. when someone does expend the time and money to teach you, you owe them the loyalty of staying there. that is part of the problem. the past couple of decades, teenagers and twenty somethings have no sense of loyalty, or much else for that matter, and people don't want to waste their time and money on someone who will leave for more money or something after they've learned.

I believe a part time job for young people is good as it gives them some work experience and work ethic, which so many of them lack.

I agree fully. There isn't much work out there as it is.
I know this isn't the same but James was working an hour and a half away for 3 weeks. His boss mentioned that he would pay extra petty money but when James asked him about it. His boss turned around and had a go at him calling him rude for asking and said how does he know he won't get a big bonus at the end of the year. When James reminded him that he was the one that mentioned about petty money his boss came up with an excuse not to give it to him. Approx 4 times he mentioned about an end of year bonus and guess what, we didn't receive a penny. So we got no petty money for the 3 hours drive a day and no bonus. Also at the end of 2011 his boss said he would give James a pay rise of $20 a day and then he would up it to $50 a day after they started back in the new year of 2012. Guess what we never got that either. Yet his boss can get a HUGE extension on his house etc.
