According to the LAPD, he is NOT under arrest. He went with them voluntarily for "questioning".
It's unclear if he posted the film on the internet or had an intermediary do it for him.
He is an Egyptian, Coptic Christian.
I question his motives for making (and posting) the film. Was it his intention to incite rioting? And if so, why? Even if the film was used as a smokescreen for the rioting, shouldn't he have foreseen that likelihood? Was he just looking to give an excuse for retaliation against the rioters?

While they say it was not an arrest, he is on probation and under the rules of probation, you give up your rights to say no when the police want to ask you questions. Now, he could have gone with them, then called a lawyer and refused to answer, but he was required to speak with them. So, it's the same thing.
I suspect that this guy, who has a nice rap sheet for fraud and other theft schemes, was paid to make the movie, and was maybe hoping for some future profits if it sold somewhere. But, if you saw the first 2 minutes of this mess, which was shown on the news, this thing is garbage. The acting is terrible and it's full of really bad voice-overs. The guy is a fraud and was looking for quick cash. Just another payday. What he will get is probably prison, for uploading this stupid (which violates his probation) thing and causing so many people to explode.
I can't see why anyone with a computer would possibly think that this "movie" is government promoted or that the American people like it. It would be like me watching the History Channel all day and coming to the conclusion that the people of Germany love Hitler. I think we may need a big democracy education seminar in Cairo. The people there are finally getting a taste of real freedom and they need to understand freedom of speech.

It's not freedom of speech, IMHO, it's a film that was used to incite violence....what's at stake is freedom of religion.

It may be the worst hate filled propaganda film since Hitler made them, or it may even be worse then the Romney lies in his campaign ads, but their all legally protected. How much of this rioting is actually due to a 15 minute clip on Youtube, and how much is just people venting because they now can?
Libya and Eygypt are new to this kind of freedom and are able to yell and scream in the streets for the first time without being beat down. I don't think this film which hardly anyone has seen, can be the real reason for all this. It's created a flashpoint, but we have to protect it, and we will, and should, or we have no rights to see anything.
