69 members of same family living in 1 road By Jeremy Armstrong UK 9/01/2009
If You think your family is close, meet the Halls.
Sixty-nine members of the clan all live in the same small street.
In fact, 12 out of the 35 houses in Cotswold Gardens belong to the Hall family.
They go the pub together in a group of 50, have family dinners which need six sittings and hire coaches so they can have trips to the seaside. They began to colonise the street in Lobley Hill, Gateshead, back in 1958 when Catherine Hall, the matriarch of the family, moved in at No 36.
Six of her eight children - Kim, Rosemary, Marganne, Keith, Katrina and Gail - soon became neighbours and as their families grew so the Halls spread.
Catherine, who had 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grand children, died last month. But that still leaves a family that ranges from four-week-old Ellie to her 76-year-old great uncle Joe.
Marganne, 42, said yesterday: "We're very close. Mum taught us family was the most important thing. Special occasions are mad.
If it's someone's birthday everyone turns up at their house."
Sandra Ross, 41, one of the non-Halls in the street, said: "It may as well be re-named Hall Gardens there are so many of them."
