6yo takes family car after missing bus January 7, 2009 - 5:30AM
WICOMICO CHURCH, Virginia - Having missed his bus, a six-year-old American boy tried to drive to school in his family's sedan - and crashed.
Police in the US state of Virginia said the boy suffered only minor injuries and eventually arrived at school after being evaluated at a local hospital.
Police say the boy, who wasn't identified, missed the bus, took the keys to his family's 2005 Ford Taurus sedan and started driving toward his school while his mother was asleep about 7.30am local time on Monday.
He ran off the road several times before hitting an embankment and a power pole.
Police said he wasn't wearing a seat belt.
The incident remained under investigation.

Another child without boundaries.
My son, nearly 12, would not even do that now!!

Yes it was amusing to a certain extent.
However - I wouldn't let a 6 year old go to a bus stop alone, and why was the mother asleep at the time? Why didn't she walk him to the bus stop?

I left home at 4 wearing only a vest. The Fuzz picked me up.

I used to walk to school alone when I was five my mother would have had to walk with me and my to much smaller siblings. Most of the time I would walk with the neighbors kids but not always. I also used to go home for lunch at that age. It was about half a mile each way, including a major highway. It was however the Mid Sixties.
