Police seize cars of 'speeding P-platers'
Arjun Ramachandran | January 5, 2009 - 5:58AMPhoto: Gary Dring Police have confiscated the cars of two P-platers caught in an alleged street race yesterday, just as the NSW State Government considers a similar course of action for P-platers who are caught speeding. Police say they noticed a Holden Commodore and a Toyota Supra allegedly travelling about 135 kmh in an 80 kmh zone at Taren Point Road, Taren Point, about 4.40pm yesterday. They pulled over both cars and the two drivers - both 18-year-old P-platers from Mortdale in Sydney's south - were charged with street racing and speeding offences. The teen's cars were confiscated and their licences suspended, and they will face Sutherland Local Court on February 5. The incident comes as the Government considers a plan to allow police to confiscate the cars of P-platers caught doing more than 20 kmh about the speed limit. Police can already confiscate the cars of street racers, with more than 300 cars confiscated last year.
