White families living on council estates feel betrayed By Bob Roberts 3/01/2009 Hazel Blears White families living on council estates feel betrayed, Communities Minister Hazel Blears said yesterday. She warned they must be listened to and their grievances must be sorted out or immigration fears could be exploited by far-right groups. The warning came after research found white families on estates said they felt like refugees and that they believed immigrants got special help in benefits and housing. Ms Blears said white people's concerns about immigration should not simply be branded "racist". She said: "White working class people living on estates sometimes just don't feel anyone is listening or speaking up for them. "People who care about their communities have every right to ask questions about what is happening in their estate, street, neighbourhood. "The job of politicians and leaders is to have the very debates that people in these estates are having - or we risk losing touch with them."

This has long been the case where lower socio-economic groups believe newcomers get preferential treatment.
They often site car ownership and other luxuries as examples.
Basically it is because the newcomers actually get off their bums and go out to work.
