my grandaughter Amiah turns 2 on Nov.20-My, two years already. So in a few weeks I'll be driving to the coast and spending a few days and have a great birthday party with her. I got to "talk" to her tonight on the phone and it made my day hearing her laughing on the phone. She told me she "wuved me"-this kid slays me! She can get anything she wants and I'll be there! I told her I was on my way to be with her and they said her eyes got big and she got excited. I love it. I never really got to meet my grandparents as they lived a long way away and my parents were just not too big on that for some reason. I missed out, I see that now. I want my grandkids to know me and I want to watch them grow. I really feel blessed and lucky to be here to experience them in my life. My parents passed away having never met my 2 kids. They came a little to late. I've listened to alot of women laugh and giggle but none has ever sounded as nice as the laughter I heard coming from this little bunny today. I need gift ideas folks ,toys, no clothes. What's 2 year old like to play with? A new doll for sure but what else?

Oh she is cute. A character toy - Dora the Explorer has lots of bits and pieces for girls. Something that sings / makes music - children that age love music. Books are always good. Not sure of other girl character toys I'm better with boys' toys.

That sounds good Epi-I like the musical toy idea. Maybe a little piano. She has a little wooden flute she likes to blow on, which is great as I've played the flute for many years. I can teach it to her when she gets bigger. I don't know what the Dora thing is but a singing/talking doll sounds really good. She needs help learning to speak so that may be good. I was thinking of a tri-cycle but I think she may be too young yet.

She looks mischievous rob ,but that is a good thing . My papa always said as he was saving me from a whipping .
"I wouldn't give you a dime for a gal without ornery in her, she won't grow up worth the dime without the ornery"
I never got a whippin if papa was around.
And Papa is still the main man love of my life. Seriously I love many men, my husband , my sons my father, but my papa was the most honorable ,lovable man I have ever known. He's been dead 7 years now and is badly missed. I was blessed to help care for him in his last years.
May you and bunny share many years together too.
As for toys at two years old she will play with the box about as well as the toy and maybe have more fun with the box. So go easy. I like Epi's idea of books , get the kid friendly ones with the thick untearable pages if you can. That way she can pack them around. ..............................And read them to her.
I found some neat toys at the Dollar General store the other day for my nieces. Ones a little stuffed dog that sings and wiggles . It sings" Wild Thing" My husband had bought me one like it from the road. His niece has loved it since she was a baby and hubby won't let me give it to her. So finally at 3 years old I found her one, she will love it. It was $12
I also found a little poodle puppy purse for $3 . It is a little dog made into a purse on its back it has a sturdy zipper about double most zippers and she will love it. I find young girls like to have a place to carry around their stuff. For two dollars they had some little dolls, heavy plastic , too big to swallow with no loose parts ,but small enough for her to pack in that purse I got those too and they are already in the purse. She is getting a tea set too as she loves to play tea party. I give her a old pan with cereal in it and she feeds me kool aid and cereal all day long at her tea party. But I had to order the tea party set. Couldn't find a good one at any of the toy stores and a two year old is a bit young for tea party yet.
And of course wrap them. Once a kid learns how to unwrap they like the unwrapping part about as well as the toys.
At this age Rob I'd head to Dollar general store . Get stuff with no small parts she can swallow and load up as they have lots of great toys there cheap.
Have a great time with Bunny Rob.

Mischievous? No-not at all Peach. She's super sweet and never cries or complains about anything. That's one of her character traits that is pretty amazing . Her mom is not cried too every 5 minutes like alot of kids do. Amiah is very even mannered and dosen't get upset much. I've asked her mom about it alot because I was very mischievous and I suppose my son was as well so I'm kind of expecting some of that in Amiah but so far she's been very easy going and no complaints from her. Hell, by the time I was two my parents were looking to place me in a home for wayward babies! lol-
I'd post more photos but I need moms permission firat. She's not real big on putting the photos online. Thanks for the gift ideas-some really good ones I had not thought of. I was thinking of getting her a Sarah Palin doll but then I'd need all those expensive accessories and lots of clothes. I will take photos at the party and if mom say's it's ok, I'l post them.

You'll have a very special relationship with Amiah Rob. She'll look forward to your company more than anything else you provide her with... there's just something magical about grandfathers and their grandchildren.
I suppose it comes from having to sometimes play the hard master with our own children making sure we had then on the right path but as we age, we leave those tasks behind us and revel in the beauty of fun and youth.
As for things to buy her... Lynda my daughter bought Cody a toy educational computer which makes a game out of letters, numbers, pictures and words. The computer interacts with the answers, encourages 'Try again' when they get things wrong and rrewards with happy sounds and encouraging words when they get answers correct.
Cody has not long turned 4, he recognises all the letters of the alphabet, can recognise numbers and counts very well. He even recognises lots of whole words.
The computer was a snip at $38.

Wow-that sounds good. Do you remember the name of it? I'll check Walmart-good prrice too.-Yea-I'm seeing the good part about being the grandparent is like you said, we don't have to be the hard ass anymore. The parents can do that while we just enjoy the time.In my case, I want to be a good male role model for Amiah as she doen't have a daddy
. Her mom may get serious with some guy and that would be good if he loves the kids. If he don't , then he won't feel real welcome (I'd highly encourage moving on). I always found it funny when I hear from a girl that her last boyfriend didn't like kids. Wow-why go out with mom if you don't like kids. Don't these guys realize that they will always be replaceable, whereas the kids are here forever! Unless your a pyscho like Susan Smith. Are some guys dumb enough to think a mother will chose him over her kids? Women are hardwired to nuture and protect their young ,not so for the boyfriend.-Just ask a male lion about trying to bother a mother lioness while she's nursing! Ouch! She' gets real upset with the so-called "King Of The Jungle"-it's funny to watch a lioness mother back a big lion down. He knows better then to mess with mama!-If only, all men understood it. First thing I learned about dating. If the lady has kids, don't ever put yourself between her and them. You'll lose every time. As you should-it's how we perpetuate the race. Protection of the young.

Buy her some big TRUCKS, like you once drove... some "tools" so she can "build" things for you.... and yes, even a play "kitchen" so she can cook for you.
Now is the time to let her imagination be free - no inhibitions will be allowed - and her "accomplishments" will all be praise-worthy to her biggest fan - YOU.
(BTW, she's starting to look like you.)
And I'll tell YOU what I tell everyone about my grandbaby... He looks just like me, but it looks better on him.... LOL....
Give her a hug from this 'ol Southern gal, wouldja?

Thanks Kim-My son looked alot like me and Amiah is looking like her daddy. It must make her momma crazy cause she hardly looks like her mom at all. Her mom says they have the same butt-lol-Your invited to her birthday party. in a couple weeks. Now, my daughter called me from San Diego last night. Her leg is still in a cast but getting better.Should be without a cast in a few more months, then she wants to come up here and bring my youngest grandson Eric, and spend a week. That will be really good. I want to take them to the coast so my daughter can meet her niece. From a brother she never knew. She will fall in love with Amiah I know. She's never been up here so I want to show her and Eric Mt. St. Helens, it's only 50 miles from here.and maybe take him up o MtHood to try sno boarding-.(him not me)I'm thinking about making the long drive there instead of flying.that way they can ride back with me. It's 1000 miles from Vancouver to Vista Cal-My daughter can help drive. That way we can take our time coming back and maybe stop in Santa Cruz so my daughter can meet my sister. Man, lots of catching up to do after 35 years!-Then after a week of good home cooked meals I'll take them to the airport to fly back home.

Oh Rob.... I know all about falling in love with family you never met..... I know she'll love them all... ESPECIALLY that beautiful little bunny rabbit.
(((Rob)))
I hope it's as much fun for Amiah as it will be for YOU. LOL
P.S..... Thanks for the invite, and I'll extend one to you as well... but I know you can't come. You'll be at Amiah's party, just about the same time I'll be at Frog's.... (my grandson will be ONE on the 28th).

That's great-one's a good age!-Nobody expects much from ya. Br sure and show the boys Amiah's photo. As fast as time goes by, before you know it. those two could be dating!-And they get younger and younger on that too-so tell the boy to give her a few more years. Make sure she's old enough to carry on a phone conversation. lol
