Flaunt power, flout the law
Anyone can fall foul of the law, especially the speeding laws ("Speeding minister cops pinky jibe", May 14), especially when they are young and stupid. But when people are well and truly grown up and are still persistently breaking the law it tells you important things about them: it tells you they have no respect for the law; they are contemptuous of it; they think they are above it; they obey it only because they think they will get caught if they don't. People like that are fundamentally unsuited to positions of power. Gordon Drennan Burton (SA)
If a primary-school teacher can be sacked for a harmless, albeit tacky, appearance in Cleo, I wonder what will happen to the Minister for Education for his habitual speeding.

I dont know about other places but in Victoria if you get caught breaking traffic rules and are a minister of the Labor Government you will lose not only yourportfolio but your endorsement as well it has happenned to several ministers. Caroline Hirsh is one that springs to mind she was picked up for .08 drink driving.

I always thought the three main qualifications for a politician was selfishness, lying and cheating.

I always thought the three main qualifications for a politician was selfishness, lying and cheating. Chips the main qualification is not to get caught at being selfish, lying and cheating. Thats why John Howard had to go he got caught.
