Seabees — their simple motto tells the story: "We build, we fight". From the island hopping of World War II and the cold of Korea, to the jungles of Vietnam and the mountains of Bosnia, the Seabees have built entire bases, bulldozed and paved thousands of miles of roadway and airstrips, and accomplished a myriad of construction projects.
The Korean Conflict saw a call-up of more than 10,000 men. The Seabees landed at Inchon with the assault troops. They fought enormous tides as well as enemy fire and provided causeways within hours of the initial landings. Their action here and at other landings emphasized the role of the Seabees and there was no Seabee demobilization when the truce was declared.
The Song of the Seabees by the U.S. Navy Band
(1943)
Words by Sam M. Lewis Music by Peter de Rose
We're the Seabees of the Navy We can build and we can fight We'll pave the way to victory And guard it day and night And we promise that we remember The "Seventh of December"
We're the Seabees of the Navy Bees of the Seven Seas
The Navy wanted men That's where we came in Mister Brown and Mister Jones The Owens, the Cohens and Flynn The Navy wanted more Of Uncle Sammy's kin So we all joined up And brother we're in to win

LOL... I hate to do this to you Richard but I can't resist it. There's a rumour 'round the harbour That the Yanks are going to sea With a bottle of coca-cola An a Bloody great tub of ice cream. With a bottle of coca-cola And a Bloody big tub of ice cream Well they're mighty fine lads in harbour But oh my God at sea. Words courtesy Royal Navy 1943.

Brother Roger was a Seabee, spent 6 months in Nam building bridges only to watch the Cong blow them to bits when they were done.

And now he must know how movie set carpenters must feel, when they see all their work go up in smoke! And yes, unlike the Seabee builders (of which my youngest son was) the don't, usually, have anyone shooting at them!! Big Smile!
