The era of the sickie may be over ninemsn staff 9:57am May 7, 2014The great Aussie tradition of chucking a sickie could be poised to undergo a radical transformation thanks to a revolutionary new concept borrowed from the UK. When an ill person goes to the doctor on a work day they are traditionally given a sick note that prevents from doing work and stipulates how much time the patient needs off work to get well. However, in the UK the concept has been turned on its head with doctors now issuing 'fit notes' that tell employers what tasks the sick person is still capable of performing. Health expert and doctor Dame Carol Black introduced the fit note to Britain and is now touting the idea of the notes coming to Australia. She says the classic sick note has been unchanged for years and rather than helping people get back on their feet could be actually doing them harm. Read More:This could be very stupid, sick people going to work already costs Austrian Businesses over 1 Billion Dollars every year, due to lost production. It is better to loose 100% of production form 10% employees rather than 50% of production from 100% of employees.

It is amazing how people in power seem to run other peoples lives, yeah? I wonder how many weeks or hours it took Dame Carol Black or people to come up with this idea and do they practice this too? I find that as a patient, one still gets treated like we are a child still in school ~ a note from the doctor (or from parents) saying excuse X from work, school, etc. I realize in our society "notes" are required to remain on the job, in school, etc., I just find it stupid!

would only ever go to the Doctor if I needed more than 1 day off which is pretty dam rare anyhow - I have only had 3 sick days in the last 21/2 years
