DENVER/SEATTLE - Colorado and Washington became the first U.S. states to legalize the possession and sale of marijuana for recreational use on Tuesday in defiance of federal law, setting the stage for a possible showdown with the Obama administration. full article: www.torontosun.com/2012/11/07/colorado-washington-first-states-to-legalize-recreational-pot~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How do you feel?
Personally, I think it's time to legalize and control it like they do with alcohol.

I live in Washington State. I voted to legalize it. I don't use it, but I'm sick of seeing young people go to prison for having a small amout of this stuff. I used to smoke it, and I never, ever got in trouble or missed work, or got in fights, or lost my woman due to meanness.
Now, when I used to drink, I lost my job, crashed cars, got in lots of fights, went to jail, got out, drank some more, and nearly killed someone with my car. So, say what you want about pot smokers, but from personal experience, I'd trust a smoker over a drinker for anything. Drunks are lousy people, and they hurt people. Pot smokers hibernate and eat sweets.
I don't use any drugs, alcohol or smoke and have not since 2002. Today I'm healthy and 63 and people think I'm in my 40s. Getting clean has been a real blessing and allowed me to spend my life sharing my time with my grandaughter. Years ago, when I drank, I gave my free time to my job, and drinking with friends. This left very little time for those that really loved me. I was wrong. Sure wish I would have stopped sooner.
SO,Yes, the district attorneys here are setting people free in our state, and this should happen nationwide. When you can sell alcohol, which kills thousands on the highway and with gun violence, and yet put away some people for smoking a weed in their own home, the laws needed to change, and I am proud to live in a very progressive state. Go after the drunk drivers and the men that get drunk and beat their wives. Leave the pot heads alone. The new law allows those over 21 to have up to 1 ounce of pot. I may open the first pot kiosk at the mall. lol-nah, the Feds would see me and take away my Social Security check for making too much money.

I think it's a good thing. Of you think about it legalizing it will help stop the big business of bikies, gangs and drug runners etc from being in control of the substance. And if you do the research marijuana is less dangerous than cigarettes and alcohol yet they are legal. Also there are huge benefits to people with cancer, MS and other illnesses. It has proven to help pain relief, nausea (especially with caner patients going through chemo), and at the moment researchers have found that a certain strain and part of a plant has an amazing anti-depressant. I know that it is classed as a depressant but again it is a certain chemical found in a specific strain.

I have never heard of people stealing to get more or breaking into houses for money. You never see pot smokers causing wrecks, but I don't think anyone should get high and drive. I don't think we need to get high at all on booze, pot or anything but people will, and it's a much safer drug then booze or meth. We need better education to let young people know all the downsides to any mind altering substance. Pot does make you lazy and tired and that can have an impact on motivation. When I smoked it, like 35 years ago, I didn't feel like doing ANYTHING! So, for me, it was no fun. Once me and my friends started smoking pot we quit surfing, and thats when I stopped smoking.

Smoking marijuania can induce psychosis I can see some sense in many of the arguments to legalize but find myself still opposed to it - slippery slopes ...

Recent studies have shown that it doesn't cause psychosis unless you have the underlying brain abnormality for it and also you are more prone if you start smoking it during puberty, especially in boys. But apparently after the age of 18 the risks of psychosis is very minimal. Here is a documentary I watched a little while back. It is very interesting and also talks about how the plant has evolved and the origin etc. topdocumentaryfilms.com/cannabis-evil-weed/

I think it would have been better to run some tests on a group of people prior to it becoming legal. Even though I voted to make it legal, what I was really wanting, was not to encourage people to kick back and stay stoned, but to not go to prison for smoking this stuff. I think alot of other voters felt the same way.
It makes no sense to destroy a persons life with a prison sentence and record for smoking this. And most young people do smoke it. I think they should regualte it though, for a while anyway. I'm wondering how this will play out in everyday life. I know it's not ok to smoke it in public and you have to be over 21, like alcohol, and you can have no more then 1 oz.. But, can people handle this? Pot today, in this part of the country, is much stronger then it was when I used it many years ago. The THC content is much higher.
I remember having a really bad time smoking this once. I smoked some, then went to a mall and went into a panic attack. I got very paranoid and ran out. And that was like 35 years ago! I won't dare go near this new stuff. I don't like any drugs that mess with the mind.
