Hello all and greetings from Nottingham.
Someone I met on Topix recommended you to me.
I'm Scottish, married and I'm a bit of an old rocker/hippy. I've done a reasonable amount of travelling (mostly in the Far East) although to my shame, I've never been to Australia, which, it seems, is where a lot of you are.
I do have an uncle in Melbourne - Beaumaris? I think that's the name of the area.
I used to post avidly on other boards but since the arrival of Facebook, I've been spending more time on there than I do anywhere else.
I work in UK industrial relations where I get involved in trying to mediate in workplace disputes as well as advising on employment matters.
I think it's safe to call me secular, I read a fair bit (mainly non-fiction) and I enjoy listening to music - in fact, right now I'm listening to Warren Zevon who I miss immensely.

A sincere welcome khatruI know Nottingham well. I was born and raised in Leicester before coming to Australia in 1971. As a teenager friends and I used to travel to the Ice Rink in Nottingham and of course make obligatory trips to the Castle. I made a special point of visiting the city again when I returned for a visit in '96 and it hadn't seemed to have changed a bit. You'll find the members here a happy and friendly lot and we know a great deal about each others lives which makes for a stable forum, you'll soon get to know everyone by joining in and posting. As you like music here's some fine Australian music by Tony O'connor especially selected as a welcome for you

One of my favorite Aussie songs; sung by my favorite Aussie group.
Keith Potger, Bruce Woodley, Athol Guy, and Judith Durham.

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks.
The music links were great: Tony O'Connor is a new name for me who's sounding pretty good. The Seekers take me back to the sixties when I had a huge crush on Judith Durham - amazing voice. I've always thought of this particular number as an unofficial Australian National Anthem.
Keeping with the Australian vibes - here's a great Aussie band that should have got much more recognition than they did...

A big welcome to you Khatru - and GREAT choice of Aussie band - you clearly have good taste. It was really nice to get to know a bit about you upfront - music and reading I can relate to that although the non fiction books I read are mainly related to either photography, photshop of other computer stuff - give me a good fantasy novel any day to while away the hours Any how welcome to the Village

Hi again and thanks for the welcomes!
I don't blame you, Sharon - I've been in Nottingham since 1984 and I certainly don't plan on staying here much past my 60th birthday.
And Willow: I started getting into Australian bands back in the very early eighties when I came across Cold Chisel, Australian Crawl and Goanna.
Soon after that I discovered Paul Kelly, Hunters And Collectors, Joe Camilleri And The Black Sorrows and 13 At Midnight.
In later years I've gotten into The Waifs, Women In Docs, Powderfinger, Kasey Chambers and Missy Higgins.
All good bands/artists and most definitely worthy of greater recognition on the world stage.
