The MOTH recently had to replace one of his hearing aids, the woman at hearing aid shop was trying sell him hearing aids for $12,000 !!!! He got her down to $4000 for ONE then after he walked away she eventually came down to $2200 I compare these prices to other sorts of electronic equipment, let's see, iPad, multiple uses, $800, iPhone not much dearer if you buy it outright, Christ for 2200 you can buy a massive LCD TV
The first quote puts the cost at a THIRD of the price that I just paid for brand new car
Someone is raking in a lot of cash for a little bit of plastic molding and some fairly basic electronics - lets face it even the dearest sound reducing headphones for listening to music barely break the $100 mark
Stepping down off soap box ......

That's a very good point Willow and I agree with you 100%, with what is in the actual hearing aid they should almost be disposable as they would be that cheap. In fact you can get more complicated electronic devices which are disposable and you simply throw them out when their batteries go flat.

Something very wrong regarding the pricing!

Yes and I think the whole industry is built on pricing that is gauging the govt and thus ultimately the taxpayer and along the way mugs like us, too middle class for any rebates and not rich enough for the price to be an easy cost.

Makes you wonder how the middle class will ever be able to retire.

With Difficulty, hoever what many forget as long as they are Home OWNERS they can live on a smaller income because much of their work income has gone to paying the Mortgage, for those that are renting though, that payment never goes away, they will find it hardest!

Yes thats true - we are finally seeing that light at the end of the tunnel (although we're not quite there yet)

Home ownership could become a reality for all if accrued superannuation funds were allowed to be used for mortgages,
Borrow and pay back the money at secured fair interest rates. That way you would really be paying for your own future.

The price of hearing aids is insane. They are raping the elderly. Of all the things made in China perhaps that's what should be next.

That is just ridiculous. I also heard the other day, a woman has stage 4 bowel cancer and spends over $10,000 a month on medication to help keep her alive. That is astronomical and for something to help try and save her life, yet other non life saving medication costs only the maximum $30 odd dollars. Pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies and services of the like are only interested in the profiteering and not necessarily of peoples lives. I am not saying they never cared otherwise they wouldn't have created the things to improve our lives, I just think once they started making money drom them they lost why they started creating this things in the first place.

My dad had stage 4 bowel cancer, what they told us was at stage 4 or stage 5 all you can really do is make them comfortable until they die. They gave dad 6 months to live but we never found out as his heart gave out 8 weeks later and he died peacefully in his sleep.
