For Sharon and anybody that wants to feel better fast and lose weight rolling off like water. My aunt was actually given this diet to use every other week by her heart doctor. After a couple of months she lost so much weight, and felt so much better she was off her heart meds in another month . So my mom decided to try it.
One of my mom's is at least 100 lbs over weight . Or I should say she was. IN just over six weeks she has lost over 50 lbs by following this diet. Her water pill is no longer needed and she is walking so much better saying her arthritis seems to be hurting her less.
My husband and I decided to try it because when we read up on it , they claimed it helped with digestive problems. ( hubby has acid reflux and indigestion pretty bad. ) and other health problems. Both of us needed to lose at least 20 lbs and I can say absolutely in a week on this diet we lost most of it. ................. This diet really works and better yet because they encourage you to eat the soup or as much fruit and vegetables as you really want I was not hungry the entire week.
Hubby did complain of being hungry so I kept feeding him soup and veggies. Didn't stop his complaining but after the week he lost so much weight and his acid reflux and digestion problems were so much better he tells me we should plan on doing this diet every other week for awhile. One week of the Sacred Hearts or Cabbage dieters soup diet and then one week with lean meats. some eggs, and plenty of veggies . Works for me.
So this is a great diet. I highly recommend this to anybody wanting to feel more energetic and have a better digestion .

What is the Sacred Heart Diet ?
The Sacret Heart diet is so named because it was developed at the Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital for people to lose weight fast - usually just before surgery.
Although used for rapid weight loss it should also clense your system and promote well being in general. Additionally you can "eat" as much as you like and most people have lost around 10lb after just one week.
Sacred Heart Soup Recipe
The recipe is fairly straight foward and is used of course to make a soup. Have as much as you like when you are hungry. Season as you wish with salt and pepper or with other herbs and spices.
The soup recipe is as follows :
1 or 2 cans of stewed tomatoes
2 lbs. carrots
2 green peppers
1 bunch of celery
2 cans green beans
3 large onions
1 large can of beef broth without fat
1 Lipton chicken noodle soup mix
Soup method:
Cut the vegetables into small pieces and place everything into a large pan. Add boiling water to cover the ingredients and boil for 10 minutes. Simmer until vegetables are tender.
Sacred Heart diet plan
In addition to the soup there is a 7 day diet plan. Drink as much water as you can. You can also have natural fruit juices, tea, coffee and skimmed milk.
Day 1
Eat any fruit except bananas. Cantaloupes and watermelon are lower in calories than most other fruits. Eat only the soup and fruit today.
Day 2
Day 2 is vegetable day. Eat as much vegetables as you can until you are full. Try to eat green leafy vegetables and stay away from dry beans, peas or corn. Eat vegetables with the soup. For your evening meal reward yourself with a baked potato and butter. Avoid fruits through-out the day.
Day 3
Eat all the soup, fruit and vegetables you want today. Do not have a baked potato. If you have eaten as above for three days and not cheated, you should find that you have lost between 5-7 pounds.
Day 4
Banana day. Eat at least 3 bananas and drink as much skimmed milk as you can today, along with the soup. Bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates, as is the milk, but on this particular day, your body will need the potassium and carbs. Proteins and calcium to reduce the cravings for sweets.
Day 5
Beef and tomato day. You may have 10 to 20 ounces of beef and a can of tomatoes, or as many as 6 tomatoes on today. Eat the soup at least once today.
Day 6 Beef and vegetable day. Eat beef and vegetables today - as much as you wish. You can even have 2-3 steaks if you like with green leafy vegetables but no baked potato. Be sure to eat the soup at least once today.
Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and vegetables. Eat as much as you like together with the soup. You can add cooked vegetables to your rice if you wish.
By the end of the 7th day you should have lost between 10 to 17 pounds. If you have lost more than 17 pounds, stay off the diet for two days before resuming the diet again.
Throughout the diet, DO NOT eat any bread, alcohol, carbonated drinks (including diet drinks). Remember, absolutely no fried foods.
Note : I made banana , skim milk and a hint of strawberry, or some sort of other fruit smoothies for my husband on banana day. Hubby doesn't like plain banana's but loved them in a smoothie . Kinda like a low calorie shake.
This week ( our in between week - off the soup) I have planned lots of beef, lean burgers, steaks, chicken , and some fish with loads of veggies and eggs every morning.
I found several good no fat, no sugar jello puddings I can make with skim milk. And I love Jellos so next go around on the soup week I plan on adding sugar free Jello molds with lots of fresh fruits in them for variety.
THe only draw back to this diet for me was I like soup. Like two days and then I am ready for something more solid .
I admire my mom for barely cheating on this for over six weeks running. Even when I made her her mothers day dinner this year she had me adhere to this diet plan. She loves the soup and is eating like 4-5 bowls each day. ........... me that will be a bit much .
And hubby needs more variety than that. THus to encourage him in our new healthier eating plan I plan the one week on the soup diet and one week on kind of a Atkins Maintenance phase so he won't get so bored on me.
If anybody is interested in trying it we could start a support group a place to exchange recipes and support each other in following this.
